The FIT program is specifically designed to enhance literacy and proficiency in basic computer applications, analytical thinking, and communication skills essential for school leavers. Mathematics and English Language for Information Communication Technology (ICT) are considered vital supporting subject domains in this program.
FIT serves as a pre-degree initiative, preparing students for their first degree, regardless of the study streams they pursued in Advanced Level (secondary education). Recent statistics highlight that many students registering for degree programs face challenges due to a lack of ICT competency, language skills, and mathematical background, particularly in external degree programs. FIT addresses these issues, aiming to better prepare students for their undergraduate studies.
Furthermore, FIT serves as an alternative qualification for students without A/L qualifications who wish to enroll in the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) program. However, those registering for BIT should have completed studies up to Ordinary Level in the school curriculum.
The program is also a certification pathway for employment seekers or school leavers, validating their knowledge and skills in ICT for future endeavors. The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), renowned in Sri Lanka for computer science and Information Communication Technology education, issues certificates upon successful completion of the FIT program assessments.
